Port-Vila, Vanuatu – Tuesday 5 August 2025: The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) hosted a seminar focused on “Innovative Tools for Monitoring Coral Reefs Resilience” Monday, 4 August 2025 in the NUV Auditorium.
This NUV Seminar featured presentations and discussion led by Dr. Federica Maggioni, PhD. She was joined by PhD candidates William Roman and Sebastian Guillermin, who are both actively engaged in research related to coral reef ecosystems and marine resilience. All the speakers were from UMR ENTROPIE, Institut de Recherche pour le Développement in Nouméa.
As coral reefs face growing environmental challenges, this seminar offered insights into the latest scientific tools and methodologies being used to monitor reef health and improve resilience. The event is part of NUV’s broader commitment to advancing research and dialogue around sustainability and climate resilience in the Pacific.
Students, researchers, policy makers, environmental professionals, and members of the general public filled in NUV’s auditorium to have a chance to learn from the experts. They even had the chance to meet the speakers as the seminar was followed by kava and refreshments, providing a space for informal networking and exchange.
This seminar was organised in partnership with NUV, the 2025 Winter School of Marine Science hosted in Port Vila, the Fonds Pacifique funded by the French Government, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD).
NUV’s development is aligned with the Vanuatu People’s Plan and the Vanuatu Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan. The education and training programs under NUV are based on the priorities of the country’s National Human Resource Development Plan 2020-2030 (NHRDP).
