Port Vila, Vanuatu – Thursday 28 May 2026: The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) hosts the international Agri Tour Project from Monday, 25 May to Friday, 29 May at the NUV Auditorium with site visits.
The initiative brings together regional and international partners to explore critical themes in agri-tourism, sustainability, cultural preservation, and community development in island contexts. Through collaborative discussions and knowledge sharing, the project aims to strengthen innovation and resilience in agriculture and tourism across Pacific Island countries.
This engagement reflects NUV’s commitment to academic excellence, sustainable development, and community empowerment. As the country’s national institution of higher learning, NUV continues to support initiatives that equip students and lecturers with practical knowledge, research opportunities, and international exposure aligned with national and regional priorities.
The Agri Tour Project provides a platform for NUV academics and students to engage directly with experts and institutions from across the Pacific and beyond. The programme supports professional development, encourages interdisciplinary learning, and promotes research and innovation in sustainable agriculture and tourism practices.
NUV’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Pascal Michon, highlighted the significance of this initiative. He said, “Projects such as the Agri Tour Project are essential for strengthening the capacity of our students and academics. They create valuable opportunities for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and applied learning that directly benefit our communities and contribute to sustainable development in Vanuatu and the Pacific region.”
Across the five days, discussions focused on promoting rural culture, adapting agri-tourism models for Pacific Island contexts, precision agriculture in micro-farming, healthy food systems, women’s empowerment and leadership, environmental rights, and the preservation of cultural uniqueness in remote island communities. The sessions showcase innovative approaches and shared regional experiences that support sustainable development and resilience across the Pacific. These exchanges and field visits also provide learning opportunities for NUV students and lecturers to engage with international perspectives and emerging practices in agri-tourism and sustainability.
NUV remains committed to strengthening its role as a leading institution of higher learning in the Pacific by fostering innovation, advancing research and developing meaningful partnerships that empower future generations across Melanesia.
