Port Vila, Vanuatu – Monday 23 March 2026: On Friday 20 March, the National University of Vanuatu (NUV) proudly celebrated International Francophonie Day with an engaging afternoon of activities organised by the Language Centre. Teams representing programmes across the University gathered on the main campus to take part in a dynamic treasure hunt featuring a series of challenges focused on the French language and the diverse cultures of the Francophone world.

Students from the Bachelor, Diploma, and Certificate programmes demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity as they navigated the different stations. The event concluded with a prize ceremony recognising the top three teams, whose efforts and spirit truly reflected the values of collaboration and cultural appreciation promoted by the University.

NUV thanks all participants, as well as the activity leaders, the Language Centre team, the Infrastructure Department, the Academic Registry, and programme coordinators for their vital support in organising this successful event.

Dr Leslie Vandeputte, Director of the Language Centre, highlighted the importance of such celebrations for the University’s mission. She said, “Celebrating the French language at NUV is not only about honouring a shared linguistic heritage, but also about strengthening our students’ openness to the world. Francophonie is an essential part of Vanuatu’s identity, and it aligns perfectly with the University’s vision of preparing graduates who are multilingual, culturally aware, and ready to engage in regional and international opportunities.”

This year’s celebration once again demonstrated the University’s commitment to promoting multilingualism, cultural diversity, and academic excellence. The National University of Vanuatu looks forward to continuing this tradition and expanding opportunities for students to connect with the Francophone world.
