Port Vila, Vanuatu – Monday 12 October 2026: The ICT diploma at the National University of Vanuatu, launched in 2025, is already proving to be a direct pipeline to employment for local IT enthusiasts. Two pioneering students from this historic inaugural 2025 cohort, Jean Baptist Malcekan and Tim Roger, have successfully transitioned from their studies straight into formal employment contracts with local IT firm EBS. Driven by deep-rooted curiosity and a passion for technology, both students pivoted from other academic paths to join the newly launched, locally developed ICT diploma in early 2025. Attracted by the high demand for IT professionals and the thrill of troubleshooting complex digital problems, their choice has quickly paid off.
The 2025 program equips students with broad technical knowledge, covering essential fields such as hardware, networking, software, cloud computing, and servers. According to the students, the curriculum’s heavy emphasis on practical, real-world application over pure theory was critical to preparing them for the workforce. Their transition to the industry began during their first year, when they joined EBS through an optional one-month internship program designed to give students practical workplace experience.
Following their internship, both Jean Baptist Malcekan and Tim Roger secured formal employment contracts, marking the very first job experience for both young professionals. When asked what set these students apart, the leadership at EBS highlighted their strong technical skills, deep motivation, and work ethics.
Reflecting on their journey, the new EBS employees encourage anyone with an interest in IT to take the leap. According to the students, if you have a genuine interest in the field, enrolling and staying closely engaged with every single lesson will pave the way forward. They added that students will progress step-by-step through the classes, and this is absolutely the program to join if someone wants to acquire confidence and has a passion to learn.
